Sharks v Habs

This game got out of hand about oh, 2 minutes in. The refs let a lot of things go, and by the time they started calling penalties, it was far too late to stop the punches. For teams that hadn't seen each other in 369 days, it was odd to see so much anger out on the ice. Our best guess was that someone suggested that the night they had spent with an opposing team members' mother was not worth the $5 they spent on it, and that player took offense, hence all the pushing and shoving.

Neither Mina nor I have issues with a physical game, but it got a little too rough out there at times.

I did enjoy watching Rob Blake literally rub some dude's face on the ice, mostly because of the novelty factor. This was preceded by Blake taking the guy down tot he ice in a headlock. I can't even remember what triggered Blake, it may have been in response to Nichol being hit, but either way, it was something else.

This is the first game where someone has described the utterance of the term "soft dump" as being said with a "honey tongue."

Josh Gorges had a bone to pick with Douglas Murray. Oh Josh Gorges, you should really know better than that.

He also kinda had a bone to pick with all the Sharks. Even the new ones he was never teammates with.

Carey price is really good. His posts were better.

TWO. TWO  holycrapthatlookedlikeagoalandweallstoodupbutwaitplayiscontining moments in this game, not including Boyle's penalty shot that rang off the crossbar. Actually it didn't ring off so much as it nearly went in and then was propelled away from the net by some epic repulsion force the underside of the crossbar was putting out.

The Air Sharks have been replaced by a giants flying Chipotle Burrito. Sadly, it did not poop steaming hot burritos on to the audience. It just pooped blue coupons.

Not a fan of Lapierre's hit on Nichol. It took him out of the game. Hope he's alright.

I was, however a fan of Heatley's WABOOM check on someone. If/When I find a video of it, I'll put it up.

The Habs blocked EVERYTHING. It was ridiculously annoying.

Walking from the train station towards downtown, I ran into Danny Miller. My general rule with famous and "famous" people is to leave them be because they're just trying to go about their business, but he looked so downtrodden that as we passed each other I loudly said "What's up Danny Miller!" He looked momentarily surprised, then said a quick hi back. Had he stopped I would have thanked him for his awesome move on my near birthday.

I also passed a ton of Habs fans. There was probably a good 1/4 of the Tank population tonight that was sporting Habs gear. Those barbershop pole jerseys are ugly in person too.

Mina and I were debating whether or not Price should have been second, not third, star. I think the crossbar at least deserves half a star.

Ray Ferraro (color guy for TSN) commented that they're going to have to repaint the irons after this game after the 3rd or so shot rang off the post instead of going in the net.

He also had a very Drew Remenda'esk rant about Maxime LaPierre about the gutless play that left Nichol crumpled on the ice. Remenda himself ranted about that play for about 5 minutes.

Blake rubbed Plekanec's face into the ice.

Sharks didn't know LaPierre was the guilty party in the Nichol hit and focused most of their hate on Markov.

Plekanec was the recipient of the Heater's best CRANKSHAFTED impression.

I just read on nhl.com that LaPierre got suspended for 4 games as a result of that hit. Also that Nichol is going to be out 7-10 days.

I'm guessing that will be 7-10 game days. I know that's not what the Sharks said, I just have a feeling that's what they mean.

would be so much better if it actually dropped burritos. And the facerub in the ice was quite fantastic.
