Post Game Recap. When Poop Hits the Fan

The best part about last night's game is that it wasn't televised so we couldn't watch the Sharks embarrass themselves.

Now, we're reasonable people here and we know that you can't win all 82 games. It's impossible. Losses are as much a part of a season as wins are, and some are bound to be ugly. Nashville had a bone to pick, having been narrowly defeated last week in a game they probably should have won. (if games were decided by effort and not a combination of skill and chance) This was the perfect time to do it too, because the Sharks were on their last game of this current (and seemingly never ending) road trip, and Jamie Baker wisely prophesied that they'd lose a little speed in the second. And guess what, they did.

Not seeing the game, I can only go off the radio coverage but it sounded like the Sharks were just plain TIRED. Greiss, from what I was hearing, played decently well, despite those 4 goals against. It was the team in front of him that was failing, and rather masterfully at that.

It wasn't all bad. That knack for scoring important goals in the waning seconds of the period/game returned and granted us two goals, one at the end of the second and one at the end of the third, to bring the Sharks within one. Sadly, this power didn't allow the Sharks to force OT, but it gave us hope that it might.

Still last night was one of the VERY FEW games when I felt like turning off the radio and finding something on TV to watch because the game was going that poorly. It was only that last minute goal in the second by the Sharks, which made the game 4-2, that brought me back for the third. I'm a fan, which means I am governed by unfailing hope that something spectacular will happen and bring my team back into it and allow them to win the game. It didn't happen, but I had to listen, just in case.

little love for one of the great lines of Jurassic Park

In other news, this came across the twitter wire via Mirtle last night. It reeks of drama to me, but other than that I don't really know what to make of it. The Sharks are a very tight lipped organization. Doug Wilson (the GM and VP) is the main voice of the Sharks, and is occasionally joined by Greg Jamison (Pres and CEO, also a member of the ownership group), and they strive to give the image of a no nonsense organization. I can't recall ever hearing from an owner like this before, so it all seems just a tad odd. Plank over at Fear The Fin discovered there may be some relationship between Basillie and Compton, but then again, Compton just may be speaking for himself because he was given the opportunity. I don't want to leap to any conclusions, given how little we hear from the ownership in general, but it will be interesting to see how, and if, this develops.
